How To Find Their Ring Size In Secret

If you are planning a romantic proposal or just planning a surprise and you need to find out your loved one’s ring size in top secret, these helpful tips will be your go-to guide.
Here’s how to make it the most unforgettable surprise of their life…
1Try On For Size
Take one of their rings and slide it on to your ring finger. Make a little mark with a pen where the ring goes up to on your finger and pop into our shop for us to measure, not forgetting the style and width of ring your are planning to purchase.
2Get Creative
Why not get creative and buy some Play-Doh or blue tack and gently press one of your loved one’s rings into it and bring it into our store to have us check the size. Remember to clean the ring afterwards, and be careful not to get the playdough or blue tack in the setting or the diamond. If you have a vernier gage or, if you can measure very accurately, just measure the inside diameter of the ring.
3Tell A Fib
Just this once, tell a little white lie and pretend you’re treating a family member to a ring they like. Take your loved one with you, then ask them to try it on in their size to ‘see how it looks’. Just don’t forget to listen out for their size.
4Something Borrowed
If you know your loved one won’t miss a ring they wear often for one day, simply bring it in to our store to be sized and sneakily put it back before they have time to notice it’s been missing.
5Ask Her Best Friend
Ask her best friend if she knows her size, or, if she can go shopping with her and try some rings on.
6Remember
Remember to make sure you know what finger the ring is intended for (if it’s not an engagement, wedding or eternity ring), as your left and right hands can measure different sizes even for the same finger. If you're using any of the above methods except for No.3, then make sure you get the correct ring for the intended hand as finger.
7Don’t Panic
If you just want to buy the first ring you fall for, or you give us the size to work from and it’s still not the right fit, then we can always re-size it or order a new ring in the correct size, if for some reason you don’t get it right first time.

Final Tips

  • Avoid measuring for a ring when you’re cold, as your fingers will be at least half a ring size smaller. Also avoid if you are very hot or your fingers are swollen.
  • The best time of day to measure your finger is in the evening, as this is when they are at their largest.
  • To ensure the correct size reading, measure your finger at least 3 times, and try to do it on different days to get an average.
  • Depending on what style of ring and the depth & width, bands will fit a bit looser or tighter, so you may need to adjust the size up or down. This is why it is best to pop into our shop to be measured. If you are doing it at home, discuss you xxact ring criteria with us along with your assessed finger size. Virtually every ring we sell can by either re-sized, or a new ring made from scratch to order, for that perfect fit. The only exception to this are certain styles of antique/second hand rings, but we will always advise you before you make that special purchase.
