A few words about us

Alan Richard Smith born in 1928 and started his career in the watch and jewellery business as an apprentice watch repairer.
He went on to work for services watch company after his apprenticeship and with hard work and determination, he went from a bench repairer to become foreman.

After several years, he wanted to branch out and start his own business, so he started by becoming a trade watch repairer from home and he went from 0 to over 130 trade customers. This enabled him to take on other watch repairers to handle the volume of work as back then quartz watches had not even been invented, so everything was mechanical.
This then leaded on to him also standing on market stalls one or two days a week in the early 1960's, and became a regular at Lutterworth Market.
Then an opportunity of a shop on George street, Lutterworth, became available. So in 1968 he finally opened his first bricks and mortar shop, and A.R. Smith Jewellers was born.
He continued to still do the trade watch repairs and now began selling watches, clocks, jewellery and watch clocks along with jewellery repairs to the local community and beyond. This is also when his wife, Carole Smith sold her own hairdressing business in Rothely, that she also started from scratch, to help and become a leading force in A.R.Smith Jewellers.

One day on his daily commute to work, he saw a empty barbers shop in the centre of Blaby, so he posted a note through the door saying if this building is for sale. please call, and left his telephone number.
Then, out of the blue over a year later, he got a call to say they had found his note and the property was for sale, so in the August of 1971, and now with a 4 month old baby boy, Richard Anthony Smith, the original Blaby Jewellers was officially opened.

Alan Sadly passed away in 2009, aged 81. The shop today is now run by myself Richard A. Smith, and is still run with the same attention to quality and customer service that helped to build A.R.Smith Jewellers all those years ago.

We are always looking to the future and making changes to move A.R. Smith Jewellers forward. so keep checking our blog, website & social media for new products. services & offers.

Kindest Regards,

Richard A.Smith
